Reasons Why We Use Redwood For Fencing Purposes

Most people choose to use wood for their fencing because it offers several material advantages and it gives a distinct look to their property. But it is important to note that not all types of wood are the same. Redwood, for instance, is a kind of lumber that is recognized as a better option for fencing if we compare it with the likes of oak boards or regular pine. Below are some points that will justify its wide usage in fencing and other structures. Let’s take a quick look at them.

No Need To Change Wood’s Appearance
One of the biggest reasons for most people to go for redwood for their fence is its natural reddish-brown hue. This feature of redwood saves people from spending money on the colored stain to change the look of their fence. Or, you can also say that you do not have to fear about the stain wearing away over time, which gives a bad look to the fence.

All you need to do with redwood is just get a sealant and put a clear coat of it on the redwood fence to help it maintain its natural color by effectively dealing with moisture and physical damage.

Naturally Repels Insects
Another advantage of wood gates and wooden fences made of redwood is that insects do not affect them. How? Unlike other woods, redwood releases natural oils that have been found to move back insects that are naturally attracted to wooden surfaces such as termites and carpenter ants. Since pest is not a major issue with this wood, you can easily expect your fence to last a long time.

Strong Against Temperature Fluctuation & Moisture
Fences made of redwood will not get affected much with temperature fluctuation. Often fences made from other types of wood get cracked, warped, or even twisted because of the changes in weather. This isn’t the case with redwood.

Moisture is another issue that affects wooden fences and wood gates. While it is recommended that you treat your redwood fence with a clear stain at regular intervals, you do not have to worry excessively about moisture affecting your redwood fence as it is naturally built to deal with it.

Can Be Cleaned Using Commercial Cleaners
Another great thing about redwood fences is that you can easily clean them using normal, everyday cleaners. There is no danger of those cleaning products affecting the condition of the wood as redwood, as previously mentioned, naturally resists moisture. So, you can confidently use such products to remove stains and grease off of a redwood fence.

We at Harwell Fencing & Gates make use of common redwood and con heart redwood for fences. Both are great grades of redwood for gates and fences.
